Dear Grandfather,
Hope this letter finds you and your family in good health. How are you buddy? How are your studies going?
We really missed you at grandpa’s 80th birthday. Since, you could not attend, I thought I would write to you about how it went. The birthday was a surprise for him. You know, he is not keen on birthdays, so we acted like not making a big deal out of it at first. Little did he know, the whole family was planning to celebrate it. When he woke up in the morning, we greeted and wished him a happy birthday. He was happy with that only. Then my uncle came around noon to wish him and took him to his house, promising to bring him back by evening. This was our plan so we could decorate the house in his absence. By the time he came back, we shut the lights of the house. He came and we all shouted “Surprise! Happy Birthday!”. He was surprised and happy at the same time to see our family come together on such an occasion. My family gave him a smartphone and my uncle gave him a rocking chair. Both the gifts made him happy. That is all what we wanted. I don’t even realise but these little gestures can light up their world. He was genuinely happy with everything. We had good food, we all danced and then everyone went home by 11pm. He told us that even though he did not want to celebrate, he was glad we celebrated for him.
I hope you can attend the next birthday. Write to me soon. Give my regards to all.
Yours sincerely,
Vijay
