Abul Pakir JanuulaAbduddin Abdul Kalam or APJ Abdul Kalam (15 October 1931 - 27 July 2015) known as Missile Man and President of the People, was the Eleventh elected President of the Republic of India. He was well known as a former President of India, a well-known scientist and engineer.
He has also been involved in the efforts of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) for four decades as a scientist and administrator for four decades and also for the development of India's civilian space program and military missile. . He became known as Missile Man in India for the development of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology.
He played a decisive, organizational, technical and political role in India's Pokhran-II nuclear test in 1998 for the second time since the first original nuclear test in India in 1974.
Kalam was elected President of India in 2002 with the support of both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the opposition Indian National Congress. After serving for a period of five years, he returned to his citizen life of education, writing and public service. He has received several prestigious awards including Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor.
