Roberto Duran by knock out!
Alexis Arguello usually fights with an upright stance and has a full crouch defense. He ha sa great hook, upper cut, and cross counters. Arguello is also a power puncher who throws flurries of bolo punches, check hooks and combos.
Duran has a decent chin, great lateral movements, great footwork, great IQ, relentless attacks, great power in both hands, has a great combination of low guard and mix guard defense, great cover up and clinches, and has great stamina and durability at Lightweight!
It will be an interesting fight. I can see Duran pushing the fight to the ropes, being the aggressor while Arguello using cross counters and slippings. Arguello would probably try to use a full guad defense and use his straight upper cuts and hooks while Duran applies pressure. Arguello will hurt Duran from the exchanges but Duran will adjust to an upright stance position and use his jab, cross upper cuts and hooks.
By the 9th Round, the damage to Arguello's body will be visible. He will be worn out from the pressure of Duran and will succumb to hard damages to his body and chin, therefore allowing Duran to Knock him out.
Duran By KO 9th Round!
This is a great match-up. Both fighters have superior knocking power but at lightweight, Duran is virtually invincible and so devastating, plus Arguello fought lesser fights at lightweight hence it is not his forte division.
Roberto Duran by KO in round 10 or 11.
IN his prime, Duran was so great that he swept all opposition in the lightweights and was so good and so strong that he did not bother to waste his time to campaign in the then lean jr. welterweight division (where the only good matchup was against Aaron Pryor) and went straight ahead to the very competitive welterweight division populated by such big names as Leonard, Palomino, Benitez, Cuevas and Hearns.
Though Arguello inherited the mantle from Duran in the lightweight following Duran's going up in weight, he was comparatively not as dominant although he fought and beat many good opponents including Boom Boom Mancini. He even had diffioculty with Edwin Viruet. Had they met, I think the strength of Duran would have proved to be the difference. Duran by late round stoppage.
Roberto Duran was the king at 135 lbs, Duran by UD.
