Im a sophomore in high school (female) and i would like to be a Corpsman FMF.
i have quite a few questions and any information is appreciated.
Physical state at the moment; im athletic, i play soccer year round and i run all the time. Currently i can run 2 miles in under 15 min and i can do 35 pushups without resting.
things i want to know;
1. How often do women get accepted into FMF
2. How does the process of becoming FMF work, (not FMTB but getting into FMTB and what happens once you do or do not make it through FMTB)
3. In bootcamp do females have to cut their hair? (if so is there anyway around it)
4. Is A school very difficult for corpsmen?
5. what does a female FMF do before during and after deployment?
6. do females who make FMF always get deployed or is it just when needed?
7. What are the requirements for becoming and FMF for females? (same as males, yes?)
8. Do you go to FMF right after A school or much later? is it better to go right after or later?
9. Is there anything i can do to improve my chances at becoming an FMF?
10. Is it better to go to college before enlisting?
Any answers are appreciated, whether it be to one or all. thank you for your time in advance!

1. There are many women that are within the FMF particularly in a Marine Air Wing or Marine Logistics Group.
2. While in "A" school you will be given an opportunity to select your top 3 choices of duty stations. If selecting a "green side" unit, or even certain "C" schools, it is mandatory to attend Field Med.
3. Female hair length is restricted to shoulder length when in boot camp, no exceptions.
4. "A" school can be difficult for those that do not study and have the dedication to do so.
5. A female HM's pre and post deployment work is no different than any other corpsman within that particular unit.
6. If a unit gets deployed, anyone within that unit can be also - male or female.
7. Qualifications are the same for school and pins.
8. Attending FMTB can be done after "A" school or after duty at a blue side billet. I recommend attending out of "A" school if possible.
9. Study hard while in Corps School, listen to your instuctors. PT regularly (Use USMC PT standards as a guide), request FMF duty stations while in school.
10. College courses can be helpful, but isn't necessary. I graduated early from high school and did great through my training.
Study hard and stay fit, as a Corpsman lives may depend on it!

There are female fmf corpsman. And the requirements? well first you have to go to meps and be able to even get HM as ur rating. Then go through boot then A school...Toward the end of A school you chose orders based on ur GPA in A school. So if you do good hopefully they'll be taking females into fmtb. If not, well then, your not going fmf right out of A school. Thats not to say you cant get it later in ur career though. How likely is it? well it all just depends on the need for it. No one can say how many fmf females we'll need in two or three years when u join. All together for training including boot, A school and fmtb is about 7-8 months. Boot is 9 weeks..they say 8 but ur first week doesnt count. A school is 3 months..then fmtb is another 8 weeks. And ur considered active as soon as you get to boot.
