French language. When there were five official languages in France (around the Revolution time) and a hundred local variations of these languages and French became the only one through a deliberate campaign to destroy the others (end of 19th century, beginning of 20th).
French painting: Impressionism (Monet, Renoir, Cezanne...)
French cinema: the Nouvel vague (new wave) and its effect on the Cannes film festival.
French language again: how we are very proud of the French Academy and its work to keep our language pure and beautiful... and how we ignore all its rulings to use a more fluid, quickly changing French and incorporate foreign words without ever asking for permission (very French reaction).
French history (if you can sneak that one through): Mistresses of the French royal rulers and their enormous political weight in the internal politics of France. Mistresses and presidents (look up Felix Faure and Marguerite Steinheil for a very French story) and our notorious indifference to the infidelities of our presidents (look up Mitterand), preferring to slam them for their politics.
French etiquette: the big stumble. We don't smile to you so we are rude. You grin to us so you are rude. How to handle the French in their habitat.

Paris: the truth behind its exquisite wide boulevards. What it was before (ugly, dark, narrow streets and too many places to fight off the army). Why (to make it pretty and to make sure no barricade can be put up and the army can have a wide shooting range), how (destruction of whole areas)...
French Culture Project
If the Cannes ff interests you, why not broaden your topic to french film in general? There are so many great french actors, actresses, directors....etc.... by broadening the topic you can touch on what really appeals to you, not just give a report of the facts.
another idea, a cheese tasting. would mean you have to purchase some pricey cheeses, but could prove to be a real win for french class (any time you bring snacks it's a plus). PLEase use funny julia child clips!
good luck, i wish i was in high school french class!
You might do a challenge on how the meals you devour every day is suffering from French tradition. Like crepes/beignets: doughnuts Cajun meals is somewhat highly spiced, identical to we adore a few of our meals. French toast is a rendition of the French's breakfast. You might make a few of these to deliver in and provide an explanation for how France has motivated our delicacies.
How about the perfume industry? Look for information on Grasse, France.
You could also explore effects of the Roman invasion in France. There are tons of Roman ruins in France.
How about Napoleon and Josephine.
French writers: I really like Alexander Dumas (The 3 Musketeers, Count of Monte Cristo)
Impressionism painting also started in France.
Bridget Bardot (famous french actress) and her fight for animal protection
Don't forget painting. The Modernist movement started in Paris.
