Its very simple but may be a little hard to explain in writing. Notice first the two plastic pieces, one is just a small rectangular piece and the other is bigger piece with a rectangular opening in the middle and one plastic piece crossing that opening. Keeping both these pieces about five inches from the end of the strap, thread the end of the strap through the metal "eye" on the camera. Once this is done put the end through the first small rectangular piece (the strap should now be threaded through this twice) and then put the end of the strap under the first part of the second bigger piece (should have small word Canon on it) then over the second plastic bar and under the last section. This should stop it from sliding out. I dont see how this is going to be easier to understand than the drawing. If you cant figure it out, maybe get someone else to do it.
Describing how to do that is almost as hard as attaching it. If it's not in the manual, there may be a separate piece of paper with this instruction or maybe they have a website with a diagram. If all else fails, take it into a camera shop and bat your eyelids at the guy behind the counter, they are usually pretty helpful. I wonder why the first guy found it necessary to be nasty, must be having trouble with his shoelaces.
