It would not have been a sin if you didn't go to any mass, as long as you have Christ in your heart and worship him on this day.
TLH is correct. There are two different parts of the book for Dec 24. One is for the morning. That is sometimes called Christmas Eve Mass. There is no obligation to attend that Mass, unless it is a Sunday. Usually, though, Christmas Eve Mass means one of the Masses on the evening of Dec. 24 - the other part of the book. All Christmas Eve, Midnight, and Christmas Day Masses count for the Holy Day obligation. Some people like to go to more than one because they are different and bring out different parts of the Nativity - for example, Luke or John. But only one (any one) is required. It is not a matter of Christmas-tide, but Christmas day. And communion is not required if you cannot receive for whatever reason - that is only at Easter.
You did receive the Eucharist at least once during the Christmas holy tide, right?
You're fine.
How could such a thing qualify as a sin?
Where in the Bible does it teach that this day is greater than any other day? It does not, so you should know that we are to worship God everyday in our prayers and in the way we live our lives. Mass does not save you, Jesus Christ does. Praise Him for that with every thought and every deed.
You should send a check for about $$$ to your local parish. That should absolve you.
