If it's new, check your owner's manual before you return it. The bulb you use has to be a certain wattage...usually 40 watts..to generate the right amount of heat for the lava to become liquid and begin circulating.
The sticker inside my lava lamp says to use only a 40-watt, A-15 appliance bulb. If you have the right kind of bulb and its been on 12 hours and still nothing, I'm with the other poster who suggested returning it.
Most lava lamps have a metal cap on top for design nd other purposes. I say return the lava lamp to the store.
Hi, If the light bulb is working then it might be the element that the light bulb heats that is not working. With the amount of time you've had it running the lava should be flowing so I would return the lamp. Hope this helps. http://www.floortablelampshades.com/lava-lamp.html
You might have a broken or wore out lightbulb.
