What makes a dog want to lick their paw? It's only his right foot, i inspected it, checked between all the toes, checked the whole foot, checked the nails for any splits and pads for any sore feet but his pads are smooth and he didnt squirm and didnt seem in any discomfort when feeling his foot...
Why would he lick his paw?
Update:He's not bored, he goes for a long walk to and from the park every morning and plays with other dogs, today he was learning to empty the tumble dryer and put the clothes in a basket so hes not lacking mental stimulation. :l
Update 3:Even during our training session where he would put two paws onto the dryer and put his head in and pull out some clothing to drop it a basket, between each try he would occasionally move his paw on its side and put his head down and lick it and then continue the training so it must be irritating him?

I doubt it's allergies only because it's only one paw. I would suspect an injury, like a spraind toe, if he gets a lot of activity. Dogs lick areas that hurt, whether it's the skin or inside and even if he showed no discomfort while you touched that, that's just him being a good boy and instinct not to show pain then and because he could control his reaction I wouldn't be worried unless this gets worse.
I have seen many things about this issue. It could be 2 things. Maybe he stepped on some food in the kitchen or stepped in another dogs scent and is now trying to figure out what it is. I mean i had a dog that licked one part of the floor all the time non stop. Or maybe he hurt himself, like pinched hiis skin of his paw. Just make sure there is nothing on it. Try to wipe it with a wet paper towel or call your vet and just tell them and they might give you something to sooth his paw. Hope this helps(:
Lua licks her paws also. Took her to the vet and asked about it and she said that she thinks Lua is allergic to pollen and other things on the ground. She gave us some wipes to wipe her paws down with after she comes in from being outside and so far they're working!
Good luck!
Something is probably irritating its paw between the pads...gently pull the pads apart and look between for redness or signs of injury...pay attention to the dogs reaction. If it wimpers, and there is no sign of injury, it may be a sprain...hope this helps...
My dog used to do that. Not sure what it was but she licked her paw so much it got red and infected then she started limping. Try washing her paw maybe there's something stuck
I've heard of dogs licking their paw(s) when they are understimulated(bored), or because they may be allergic to something in their food. Those are the only reasons I've come across in my experience....aside from the obvious that something is hurting their paw.
I've read that pugs have weird licking habits, but no one has given an explanation. Maybe his foot tastes good?
I know my pug will lick her blanket when she is waking up or laying down for sleep. I think it is a comfort thing.
may have something deep inside the paw so i would soak it in some warm salt water the dry it well if you cant see anything it may be just a habit if it goes on go to a vet
a lot of times when dogs lick or chew on their paws its due to allergies, and the paws itch. talk to your vet though to know for sure
there could be gum in his fur? he could have a thorn in his paw that you missed, or he could have twisted it, or sprained it? keep an eye on it if he starts limping or it get red, take him to the vet. hope he feels better!
