Different state have different requirements. Some states require associates degrees that will cost more than a state that only requires x hours of training. Call various massage schools that you are interested in for tuition. It is very hard to make a living as a full time massage therapist. Where I live, LMT work part time and then have other jobs for the benefits and a consistent salaries. I heard a MT say that the average lifetime of a MT is less than 10 years because it is so hard on your body.
Best wishes.
It can cost anywhere from $6000 -$20,000 depending on the number of hours of training that you take. Do your research and go into each school and talk to the students, teachers, grads and admin people. Get massages in the free clinic and from grads and teachers if you can. Sit in on classes to see if you like the atmosphere and learning environment. Figure out what type of learner you are and if the school can accommodate your learning style.
Today with so much competition out there in the massage world you really have to know your stuff and be a self starter. Most massage therapists start their own business. There are jobs out there but most entry level are low paying ($12-15 and hour). You don't get paid that if you don't have a client - it is usually min. wage or nothing. There is much more to becoming a massage therapist than just the nice relaxing pictures on the schools websites. You have to know how to get and keep clients. You have to understand communication. You have to be always learning about the body and the mind.
